DECEMBER 3, MAKE A CALL FOR THE CLIMATE
Citizen’s Climate Lobby is a nationwide group of nearly 200 thousand volunteers working to stop climate change through the legislative process. We now have a bill before the U.S. House of Representatives that would reduce CO2 emissions in the United States by 90% by year 2050. Its called the Energy, Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act (H.R. 763). Kansas City’s own Emanuel Cleaver is one of the 82 bipartisan cosponsors. This bill places a fee on fossil fuels that increases every year, paid for by the fossil fuel industry that mines, drills or imports it. All fees are distributed back to the American people as monthly dividends. As carbon heavy products become more costly, we create an incentive for people and corporations to make greener choices. Studies show that this would get us back on track to meet our Paris commitments to be carbon neutral by 2050, while protecting American families from rising costs with the monthly dividend. Scientists and Economists across the country agree that this is one of the most effective ways to reduce emissions quickly, while growing green jobs and stimulating our economy.
Our group is working to create the political will for a livable world. You can learn more about the Energy, Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act at https://energyinnovationact.org/. December 3rd is our National Call Congress Day. Please take a moment to call your member of Congress in support of this important legislation. Our online calling tool provides a script and phone numbers: cclusa.org/call Need to do it a day early or late? Its fine, just make the call. Your call matters!
