Congratulations to our most recent Green Core Training graduates at the Transition Center of Kansas City! These 10 graduates diligently discussed and absorbed 600 pages of information to earn their Environmental Specialist designation from the US Department of Labor. We are so proud of them!
In order to provide quick and effective climate solutions, we need hard workers in the field who get stuff done to transform the way we live. That’s exactly what these graduates are committed to doing.
In fact, they recently worked with Bruce, alongside other GCT graduates, to transform the Historic West Bottoms community garden into a productive, beautiful green space. This is the kind of work we need to encourage.
We have no doubt these graduates will help make the world more productive, beautiful, and green. We can’t wait to see what they accomplish!
Green Core Training
KC Can Compost’s Green Core Training is a free program that helps people with barriers to employment develop environmental literacy and work readiness skills;
- Environmental literacyTrainees learn about environmental issues and topics, and are encouraged to consider solutions and discuss them with their peers.
- Work readinessTrainees develop soft skills for success in the workplace, such as planning, organizing, teamwork, critical thinking, interpersonal skills, decision making, resume writing, and interviewing practice. Upon completion of the course, trainees receive an “Environmental Specialist” designation from the Department of Labor. KC Can Compost also helps graduates find green internships or jobs.
The current class, which began on June 24, took the community learning process to heart. All eight students are willing to contribute to the discussion, have embraced their fellow students, and are seeking to understand at a deep level. This is what we love to see.
