Native Plant Work and Learn Day with Deep Roots at Anita B. Gorman Conservation Discovery Center – On Going

Deep Roots is a collective impact organization of multi-sector Partners. Together with our Partners, we work to increase native plant landscapes. Our mission is to encourage the appreciation, conservation, and use of native plants in the heartland through educating, collaborating, and facilitating the planting of regenerative native landscapes that are essential for a healthy planet. Located at Anita B Gorman Discovery Center, our garden is planted with a variety of native plants to showcase the true beauty of Missouri native plants in a landscape setting. Community volunteers work at the direction of Deep Roots KC professional native landscape staff to maintain the garden.

Work sessions:  There will be 3 separate sessions per month, one on the 1st Thursday of the month at 6:00PM, one on the 3rd Saturday of the month at 8:00AM, and one on the 4th Thursday at 8:00AM. Times and dates may change depending on weather/etc. but should remain generally consistent through the season. Work sessions will start in March and continue through October. Each session will last 1 ½ – 2 hours. Our Outdoor Education Manager, Cydney Ross will be leading all workdays. Following each workday, please join Cydney for a quick garden tour on the grounds of the Discovery Center to see what’s blooming!

Volunteers:  Our goal is to have 6-10 volunteers per session. It is recommended that volunteers sign up for a minimum of 3 to 4 sessions, i.e., once a month for 3 to 4 months, (preferably all 7 sessions if available) for consistency and training. In addition to being a great volunteer opportunity, these sessions are also an excellent educational opportunity! If you need to adjust your signup dates, please send an email to [email protected].

Don’t forget water, hat, bug spray, and sunscreen!
