Missouri Organic Recycling Receives MWCC Environmental Award

One of the goals of the Missouri Waste Control Coalition (MWCC) is to recognize outstanding achievements in the environmental industry each year. MWCC presents their Environmental Excellence Award during its annual conference which will be held July 21-23rd, 2024, at Margaritaville Lake Resort, Osage Beach, Missouri.

Missouri Waste Control Coalition (MWCC) is a 400-member not-for-profit organization which is concerned with environmental issues.  The statewide organization is a coalition of citizens, businesses, consultants, regulators, and others concerned with the management and disposal of generated wastes and other environmental issues.

Annually, the MWCC sponsors the MWCC Environmental Conference, a conference that has run continuously since 1972, making it one of the oldest environmental conferences in the nation.

The MWCC offers periodic training throughout the state, and offers various other educational programs. It also provides college scholarships and recognizes outstanding achievement through its annual award program.

MWCC ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE AWARD

This award is open to any business both for profit and non-profit, industry, government entity or individual, citizens group, and solid waste operation located within the State of Missouri.

The purpose is to recognize projects, individuals, groups, or organizations which have achieved environmental excellence through innovative technology and methodologies or significant community stewardship. Award winning organizations or projects should enhance performance both environmentally and economically, be sustainable and show documented results both before and after implementation.

Missouri Organic Recycling was selected to receive this award based on their innovation in diverting organic waste from landfills, education and outreach programs and supporting community organization programs in the KC Metro. Their efforts have created a more sustainable environment.

Missouri Organic Recycling

Missouri Organic Recycling was founded in 1992 by the Anderson family. Dave Anderson, founder and owner, saw Missouri’s yard waste to landfill ban as an opportunity to sell firewood to his clients. Firewood expanded to mulch products, which paved the way for composting. We began accepting food waste in 2005 through our award-winning FRED program, also known as Food Residuals Environmental Diversion, with the support of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and Mid-America Regional Council, Solid Waste Management District.

Every year Missouri Organic Recycling divert more than 32 million pounds of food waste from area landfills, which is enough to cover fifteen football fields a foot deep. Since 2008, we’ve diverted more than 150 million pounds of food waste alone. Think of it as farm to table, to compost, and back again to the farm. We combine this food waste with a portion of the more than 150,000 cubic yards of yard waste brought to our facilities to create 54 million pounds of compost available to our communities annually.

Our Mission to produce the highest quality organic products and service from a valuable resource (Organic Waste).
