The 2024 Earth Festival will be opened by Missouri legislator Emily Weber, Democrat Minority Caucus Vice-Chair, and keynoted by Dr. Wendell Christopher King, U.S. Army Brigadier General (ret.). Festival organizers will talk about upcoming events and the organizations behind them. Chat one-on-one with event organizers or post your Q&A to the room. Opening Speaker

Emily Weber grew up in rural Kansas. She attended Butler Community College and the Kansas City Art Institute. After graduation from KCAI, Emily made Kansas City her home. Since graduating Emily built a career in communications and marketing. She served on the policy committee for Climate Action KC and is currently the State Representative for District 24.

Emily joined Renew Missouri part-time in the Summer of 2023 as the Kansas City Coordinator/Outreach and Education Associate. During her limited free time, she enjoys spending time with her two spoiled dogs and trying to catch up on TV shows and movies.

Keynote Speaker

In 1992, Dr. King won both the American Academy of Environmental Engineering Honor Award for his work on the Kuwait health risk assessment and the Army Science Award for outstanding research for his developments in geophysical subsurface remote sensing.  In 2000, he completed his M.A. in National Security and Strategic Studies at the Naval War College.  Dr. King is a licensed professional engineer and is board certified by the American Academy of Environmental Engineers with a specialty in hazardous waste management.  He is a life member of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers, a longtime member of the Environmental Engineering Professional Engineering Exam Committee of the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES), and a founding Member of the Global Military Advisory Council on Climate Change.
