The Heartland Nature Celebration is one of the many events happening during the Greater Kansas City Metro Area City Nature Challenge. The City Nature Challenge is a citizen science event focused on urban biodiversity that uses the iNaturalist app to identify species in cities all over the world.
About the City Nature Challenge
The City Nature Challenge is a world-wide collaboration that offers an opportunity to connect with nature in your own backyard. The City Nature Challenge is a weekend-long event, happening April 28 – May 1.
About the Heartland Nature Celebration
The Heartland Nature Celebration will contribute to the Greater Kansas City Metro Area’s City Nature Challenge through guided identification hikes using iNaturalist along the trail at the HOP. New to iNaturalist? We’ll have someone on site ready to help you out.
Activities
Join us any time between 10 am – 2 pm at Heartland Overlook Preserve (HOP) 9106 Chestnut Ave, Kansas City, MO. Dress for the weather and wear shoes you are comfortable hiking in. Everyone is welcome, including furry friends, to come and enjoy a day in nature! The Heartland Nature Celebration is FREE and open to the public and includes fun environmental experiences and guided hikes.
All visitors are invited to join one of the guided hikes, which will run every 30 minutes, and give you the opportunity to collect the valuable, scientific data for the City Nature Challenge.
Educational Booths
Participants can explore the interactive environmental education booths led by Heartland Conservation Alliance partners. Discover nature and help Kansas City reach our goal of 10,000 observations on iNaturalist!
