Spring is upon us and Cultivate KC is offering several ways to access luscious veggies while supporting local growers. You can sign up for weekly veggie pick-ups, purchase starts for your own garden, or access their Tool Library.
You can sign up for the New Roots for Refugees CSA. New Roots for Refugees farmers are experienced growers who are learning to farm in a new climate while also learning a new language and food culture. By purchasing a farm share from New Roots for Refugees, you are supporting a refugee family as they put down roots in Kansas City.
The Farm Share program, which begins May 10th, is a weekly vegetable subscription that allows members to support the New Roots for Refugees farmers by paying upfront (or in installments) for several weeks of fresh, locally grown vegetables. Members receive 5-7 items each week, including beets, radishes, carrots, lettuce, potatoes, swiss chard, and more. This season, there are four public pick-up locations throughout KC with the following pick-up times:
- Plexpod Westport Commons, KCMO: Wednesdays 11:30am-1pm
- Black and Veatch World Headquarters, OP: Wednesdays 4:30pm-6pm
- The Merc Co+op, KCK: Thursdays 11:30am-1pm
- Ten Thousand Villages, OP: Thursdays 4:30pm-6pm
And there are three “share” options to choose from:
- Full Summer (22 weeks from May 10 – October 12)
- Early Summer (11 weeks from May 10 – July 20)
- Late Summer (11 weeks from August 2 – October 12)

Need a tool to get that garden going? Cultivate KC’s Urban Agriculture Tool Library is open to urban farmers, community gardeners, and neighborhood residents to help access tools to grow good food in the city. Check-out and Check-in times are every week from March 2 – October 26 on Mondays from 3-5pm and Thursdays from 9-11am. To access the Tool Library, there are some simple requirements.
