As August arrives, we’re gearing up for one of the busiest and most rewarding times of the year. In the coming months, we’ll be planting trees, removing invasive species, collecting native seeds, and helping keep our city’s parks and neighborhoods beautiful through community litter cleanups. There is important work ahead, and we can’t do it without the dedication, enthusiasm, and support of our amazing volunteers.
Heartland Tree Alliance tree planting season kicks off in mid-September and continues through the end of November. Most planting projects require 20–25 volunteers to successfully complete a site, and every helping hand makes a meaningful difference in growing a healthier, greener Kansas City.

KC WildLands is currently hosting stewardship workdays and will be adding more opportunities to the calendar soon. Invasive species removal and native seed collection projects can typically accommodate 25–30 volunteers, but larger conservation areas always benefit from additional support. Your efforts help restore and protect vital wildlife habitats across our region.
