Don’t miss your chance to say no to new nuclear weapons: Come to our Teach-In on May 6 to prepare for the public hearing in KC on May 7!
The Problem with Plutonium
The Department of Energy has a dangerous plan: to build 80 or more new plutonium pits every year for the next 50 years. Every pit will serve as the core or trigger of a new nuclear bomb. This massively expensive proposal was challenged in court as the public was not informed and no environmental or health assessment was done.
Thanks to the work of activist groups who successfully sued the government under the National Environmental Policy Act, the DOE was required to produce a Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement and hold public hearings to give citizens a chance to voice their comments, questions, and concerns about the environmental risks of plutonium pit production.
Kansas City will be one of only 5 cities across the country where these public hearings will be held, and the KC hearing is coming up on Thursday May 7.
