Compost Fest 5 is a community event hosted by KC Farm School and sponsored by Missouri Organic Recycling. It features all that is beautiful about Kansas City: urban ag, collaboration, fun, plants, compost, interactive play, bicycle safety and bike maze, composting, wildlife, soil, food rescue, mushrooms, and more! You won’t want to miss this amazing opportunity to visit with so many folx working within our local food system in one place… and find all the SPRING PLANT STARTS you need to get that garden growing!
In addition to KC Farm School’s amazing Spring Plant Sale, there are two other big features: the giant puppet play, Microbes Always & Everywhere (with a cast of 40) and The Perfect Pile, a hand-built 10 cubic yard compost pile assembled by 8 volunteer shovelers and 7 piles of ingredients including biochar, spent mushroom blocks, coffee grounds, hair and more! There will be 20 booths hosted by regional farms, groups and government agencies to help you connect with local food sources.
Other on-site demonstrations will be mushroom logs, vermicomposting, a live biochar burn, and “Feel The Heat” – a reach-in compost pile offering the experience of feeling the heat of active composting. We believe that Compost Fest is the most complete compost educational event in the world.
