Tree Talk & Trek: A Woodland Scavenger Hunt

Curious about the trees around you? Join us on July 23, 2025 from 10:00-11:00am CST for Tree Talk & Trek: A Woodland Scavenger Hunt at the beautiful Heartland Overlook Preserve (9106 Chestnut Ave, Kansas City, MO 64132). This family-friendly event offers a unique and engaging way for families to explore nature during summer break!

Your family can embark on a tree-inspired scavenger hunt, learning fun facts about our amazing urban woodland along the way. We’ll also explore the trails at Heartland Overlook Preserve and highlight the dedicated restoration work the Heartland Conservation Alliance is doing to preserve this vital natural space.

Come connect with nature, deepen your understanding of our local trees, and enjoy a wonderful day out with the family!

Participant Qualifications:
  • Register before the event for yourself AND any legal dependents under 18 or adults under your legal guardianship. For this event, anyone:
    • 15 or older can volunteer independently.
    • 14 and younger must be under parent or legal guardian supervision the entire time. 
What to Bring:
  • Plenty of water appropriate for your needs and weather conditions. There will be no running water on site.
  • Sunscreen and/or bug spray as appropriate.
  • Long pants and close toed shoes are highly recommended to protect against bugs.

Note: that there is a porta-potty on site, but it is frequently locked and is therefore unreliable. Please keep this in mind and plan accordingly.
