Join us for a relaxed, exploratory hike through Hodge Park, a wooded natural area north of the river. We’ll begin on a concrete path before entering a dirt trail that winds through the woods, then continue with a walk through the Shoal Creek Living History Museum. The total walk is approximately 1.5 miles. Please REGISTER for this FREE event.
This historic property features:
- A small herd of bison
- Preserved buildings from the 1800s, including a mercantile, jail, grist mill, church, school, doctor’s office, and tavern
- Informational kiosks sharing the history of each structure and its place in Clay County, Missouri

Enter the park from:
NE 96th St / Shoal Creek Parkway, east of I-435
You’ll see pickleball courts and a children’s playground. Park at the far end of the parking lot, where we will gather and begin with a short walk on a concrete trail before entering the wooded dirt trail.
What to Bring & Know Before You Go
- Dress for the weather
- Wear sturdy walking shoes
- Bring a water bottle and/or hot drink
- No restrooms are available at this time of year
If weather requires cancellation, participants will be notified by 8:00 AM on the day of the event.

About the Leaders
Tina Yokum-Magaz and Tom Tucker live in Kansas City, north of the river. Over the past 14 years of retirement, they have spent their time traveling, hiking, and exploring the United States in a pull-behind trailer with their dog, Katie. Most recently, they followed the trail of Lewis and Clark through the Dakotas, Montana, and Idaho. Tina and Tom love sharing their appreciation for history, nature, and time outdoors with others.
