Join Cultivate KC & Compost Collective KC on November 9, 2024 for this family-friendly and eco-awesome Pumpkin Smashing Party to divert pumpkins from KC landfills! Head on over to the Juniper Gardens Training Farm (100 Richmond Ave., Kansas City, KS 66101) between12noon and 4pm.
Did you know that pumpkins take up a lot of resources to grow and often end up in landfills? In fact, In the United States, more than 1.3 billion pounds of pumpkins end up in landfills each year. This contributes to the 35.3 million tons of food waste that ends up in landfills annually. This creates greenhouse gases that warm our planet when they could be nourishing the soil instead!
Let’s keep those pumpkins out of the landfill—smash them to bits and send them to have a new life in the soil as nutrient-rich compost!
