The 1991 eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines spewed enough sunlight-blocking gases into the atmosphere to cool global temperatures by nearly 1 degree over the next two years. Could the recent eruption of the Taal volcano, also in the Philippines, do the same? Experts say no, although they can’t rule out a future, stronger eruption of Taal that could affect the global climate.
