Cheap, Throwaway “Fast Fashion” Clogs our Landfills Forever

The average American household throws away 70 pounds of textile waste each year. That’s 23,098,090,330 tons of textile waste annually in just the United States. The textile industry as a whole is responsible for roughly 5% of all landfill space. This clothing is often made from non-biodegradable synthetic materials that will occupy this space indefinitely.

Slow Fashion Donation Drive

The Sewing Labs welcomes fabric donations, notions, patterns and gently used sewing machines.  People can help the environment by donating these items to The Sewing Labs, where they will repurpose them with their students. Students in their programs are able to tap into a fabric bank at no charge to them. The graduates of their certification programs are re-gifted a gently used sewing machine to take home and continue to sew on their own.
