Be a “Snow Angel” For Your Neighbors

Help your neighbors and build community connections! Snowy sidewalks can be the reason someone can’t get to work or school safely, and nearly every city in the Kansas City region expects residents to clear their own sidewalks.

Many hands make light work!

This is your opportunity to organize your neighbors for a snow shoveling party. Folks with strong backs and the right equipment can clear the sidewalks. Someone else can make hot cocoa. Other families can bring a bag of ice melt. If you get organized now, you will be prepared when the next snow hits!

🍁 No snow? Help your neighbors clear leaves off the sidewalk! Decomposing leaves are slippery, and they contribute to a freeze-thaw cycle that can hasten sidewalks cracking and buckling. Check with your city about yard waste removal programs, or consider using fallen leaves as mulch in the garden.

⛄ Some cities have ready-to-roll volunteer programs. Mission residents can join the Snow AngelsOlathe volunteers can sign up for the Snow Brigade and Shawnee operates a Snow Squad

⛄ North Kansas City and Kansas City, Missouri have bike-lane-sized snow plows! If you see a bike lane that needs cleared of snow or ice, contact North Kansas City Public Works at 816-274-6004 or KCMO Public Works at 311 (or use the myKCMO app).
