MARC Climate Resilience Workshops | Next Steps

In Sept. MARC held Climate Resilience Workshops. Our next step is to build community coalitions who will meet regularly to guide development of priorities for Regional Climate Action Plan implementation, through the Priority Climate Action Plan (PCAP) and CPRG implementation grant application (due April 1), as well as a Comprehensive Climate Action Plan and broader funding strategy for other federal infrastructure funding applications over the next two to three years.

You can view a short video of the Sept. workshop here. One product is list of initial themes and project ideas thatemerged through workshop conversations – these projects are examples of resilience and mitigation measures which could be included in the EPA Climate Pollution Reduction Implementation Grant. Linked here is a  full list of written comments provided at the workshop.

Led by MARC staff and community champions, five community coalitions will develop, refine, and conduct cost-benefit analysis for proposed projects, ensuring they effectively reduce climate pollution and are regionally significant and multi-beneficial. Please join us online or at MARC’s offices for November coalition meetings. Registration links for each meeting are included below:

Alongside coalition work, MARC is engaging local governments throughout the region. Local governments have been invited to attend community coalition meetings, and on November 20-21, MARC will host municipalities in a two-day series of workshops to identify priority projects for inclusion in the PCAP.

On December 1, community coalitions and local government members will meet at the Kauffman Foundation from 8:30 – 11:30am to refine a draft Priority Climate Action Plan to be released by the end of the year.

If you are unable to attend these meetings, you are welcome to submit your project through the project portal. Submissions are due by Dec 11th.

Finally, MARC’s Climate and Environment Council is looking for new members to join the 2024-2026 cohort of the Climate and Environment Council (CEC). The CEC will advise the final draft of the PCAP and will guide ongoing Climate efforts. Learn more and apply on MARC’s website.
