Black Birders Week starts on this Sunday, May 28 through June 3, 2023. Organized by the BlackAFinSTEM Collective, Black Birders Week celebrates, supports, and amplifies Black STEM professionals. Join us for another year of connection during Black Birders Week 2023 as we Fly Full Circle to reflect on our past, honor our present, and spread our wings to look toward the future. Look for a variety of activities as we celebrate being bold, beautiful, and Black during Black Birders Week 2023. Visit the Black AF in STEM website to find out how to support and participate by sponsoring a #BlackBirdersWeek event, connecting with your community, or sharing and uplift the core messages.
#BlackBirdersWeek will feature panel discussions, bird walks, and giveaways among other engagements, both virtually and in person. The event week is organized in partnership with BirdNote, Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Bird Collective, and other organizations.
#BlackBirdersWeek got its start in 2020 as a primarily virtual event spurred by the Central Park birding incident involving the accomplished science writer and birder Christian Cooper. The Collective also aims to inspire new audiences to engage in nature and share the stories of Black conservationists from across the globe.
