We’re way beyond denial now, as the new Assessment Report by the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change makes clear. One most of the important questions is whether capitalism can be part of the solution or will it inevitably be the heart of the problem. Can capitalism move fast enough and far enough? The evidence isn’t heartening considering how much of the economy remains dependent on fossil fuels. Whatever the economic system is called, it must speed the rapid decarbonization necessary to avoid the worst outcomes of the climate crisis.
