Connecting Community Leaders with Climate Equity & Sustainability Solutions

The Inspiration

Climate Connections is designed to connect Kansas City area minority-led grassroots organizations that are tackling the intertwined challenges of social justice, climate equity, and public health with climate equity and sustainability solutions. These organizations lead critical community-driven initiatives improving the health of people and environments, but often operate with limited resources. By connecting these local changemakers with resources, we aim to support community transformations to bring more public resilience through sustainability.

Our Collective Impact

Environmental Resilience and Community Health: Grassroots organizations attending Climate Connections are working at the intersection of environmental and human health. Their efforts collectively reduce environmental hazards, improve air and water quality, and strengthen health outcomes of groups historically cut out of equity ownership.
Development of Sustainable Solutions: Grassroots organizations implement sustainable green projects that align with regional goals to combat climate change. Driven by ideas like green infrastructure, renewable energy implementation and local food production, they pave the way for sustainable living across the earnings spectrum.
Equity and Empowerment: Grassroots organizations are uniquely positioned to lift up local marginalized populations, making their sustainability and health efforts inclusive and impactful. Climate Connections provides the philanthropy sector with a connection to community leaders and provides an opening to uplift communities with resources and solutions.

Addressing Community Needs

Kansas City’s historically underserved communities face up to 25°F higher block-level heat in the summer, longer utility outages during extreme winter and summer weather, lack of food distribution retailers, and higher exposure to air and water pollutants. Local grassroots organizations are on the front lines, addressing these critical needs through holistic solutions. From urban farms and clean energy installations to personal support for sustainable lifestyle changes, local grassroots organizations provide solutions that resonate with their communities, bringing about lasting impacts.

The Opportunity

We seek Community Leaders to play nine holes of golf at the Climate Connections Invitational Golf Tournament. There, as you tee off, you’ll meet groups and corporations that can provide help support your climate equity and sustainability goals.
We seek Groups and Organizations to sponsor each golf hole at the Climate Connections Invitational Golf Tournament. There, you’ll meet community leaders uniquely positioned to implement lasting change at the community level.
