Alaska Federal District Court Judge Rules Illegal President’s Attempt to Open Arctic and Atlantic Oceans to Fossil Fuel Exploitation

U.S. District Judge Sharon Gleason ruled on Friday, March 29, that Trump’s April 2017 executive order revoking the Obama administration’s ban on drilling in most of the Arctic was ” “unlawful, as it exceeded the president’s authority.” The decision, immediately reinstates the drilling ban on most of the Arctic Ocean off the coast of Alaska and on a large swath of the Atlantic coast.
